Karen Craig PO (SCC) shares her story for International Women's Week

March 11, 2021

Today we are featuring Karen Craig PO (SCC) in our #choosetochallenge campaign following International Women's Day.

Karen joined the Royal Navy in 1994 as a WOM – Wm Operator Mechanic.

She trained at HMS Raleigh, HMS Dryad, HMS Collingwood and HMS Cambridge before joining HMS Brave, where she learned how to use the radar and weapons system on board.

Karen is now a member of the Royal Naval Association, and has been a part of the Sea Cadets Carrickfergus since 2013, where her daughter also volunteers, and where she met her now-husband who is also ex-Royal Navy.

Karen has become a Catering Instructor and First Aid Instructor with the Cadets, and is also involved in stores and administration at the unit.  She said:

“It gives me great satisfaction working as part of a team within the unit, imparting knowledge to the next generation. It reminds me of the values of teamwork and comradeship in the Royal Navy.”

Thank you for being a part of our #choosetochallenge campaign Karen!
