A number of UK charities have joined together to celebrate Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month this April.
Their campaign is focusing on seeing the ability and not the disability of community members. They will be sharing the real-life stories of individuals living with limb loss and limb difference, from all walks of life, in our mission to highlight ‘real life’ as a person with limb impairment.
The objective for this month-long campaign is to empower and connect with people with limb loss and limb difference to reduce isolation and loneliness. Persons with a disability have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and as lockdown easing is within-sight we will spread awareness of the support network and opportunities available to community members to reengage in a safe, friendly and supportive environment.
“As an amputee or person with limb difference, there are many barriers to leading a full and active life. The limb loss and limb different charities offer a wealth of knowledge, opportunities and resources to support new and established amputees on their lifelong rehabilitation journey. There really is support and engagement opportunity for anyone no matter what their level of impairment or age,” said Kiera Roche, an above knee amputee and CEO LimbPower.
The consortium of limb different charities will spend April raising awareness around living with limb loss and limb difference, both for the individuals affected and their family and support network. There are events and resources to entertain, educate and connect empowering individuals and families to live a healthier and fuller life; sharing real-life stories to offer insight and tips to support the lifelong rehabilitation journey.
By working together we have a greater geographical spread and community reach across the UK. You too can support the recognition and celebration of #LLLDAM and #LimbLossLimbDifferenceAwarenessMonth and spread the word using the Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month logo’s and assets.
