Tandragee Veterans’ Support Centre opened in August 2020. It is run by military Veterans, for Veterans, and it is their Veteran-led approach, that enables Veterans using the centre to feel completely at ease, in a warm, welcoming, safe and secure environment.
The Centre provides an ideal space for Veterans to meet people, build new friendships, access support and try new activities and challenges.
Planned for the New Year are a wide variety of activities including hill walking, archery, model making, boating and gardening to name a few. In all activities and events organised, there will be an overarching focus on supporting Veterans mental health. Veterans are encouraged to take part and benefit from the peer support available by being part of a group and connect with likeminded people who understand the issues faced by a Veteran with a background in the Armed Forces.
One of the Centre’s major success stories has been the development of Mind the Pipes and Drums. The Mind the Pipes and Drums band is growing from strength to strength. They currently have 140 members with a combination of ex-professional military pipers and drummers and beginners. They have an exciting range of events planned for 2021, and are honoured to have been invited to take part in a Tattoo to celebrate 100 years of Irish Regimental Pipe Bands in Carrickfergus Castle.
Every Tuesday morning the Centre holds a coffee morning, and Veterans are encouraged to drop in and say “hello”. All coffee mornings and events have been socially distanced in order to adhere to current Covid safety guidelines.
There’s something for everyone, so if you are interested in joining in, or would like any more information please get in touch, you will be warmly welcomed.
